Maybe I Should Have Gone Back

Carter was 6 months old at Christmas. He got a gift card to Target from my uncle and one from my aunt. It was really good timing. He was sitting up really well and I wanted to be able to put him in a shopping cart or restaurant highchair. So with his money I bought this and this.

Now I am really good about using them. Usually. But Wednesday I had running around I needed to do. We went to Target where I had to take something back and then pick up a few staples. It was cold, and it was raining. So I grabbed Carter, threw my bag over my shoulder, had my return and a blanket in my other hand and was halfway to the door when I remember my shopping cart cover. Oh well, one time won't hurt. Right? I wasn't going to be long.

Well, Thursday morning Carter woke up sick. Coincident? Or did the child in the cart before Carter have a fever, congestion in this chest that makes it sound like he can hardly breathe, with a real bad barking cough? But then I've also always heard that virus' are dormant for 48 hours before they actually show up.

Who knows......

Au Natural

Stephanie over at Adventures In Babywearing is having a contest. She is asking to see our before makeup pictures.

Now I must admit that I never leave the house without makeup. I wear very little during the day if I'm not going anywhere, and will also go the grocery store that way, but I feel I need a little something when going in public.

Steph is giving away 2 prizes on May 4th. So go ahead and post your picture and link back to her. You never know, you just might win.

Boys! Boys! Boys!

Yesterday I told Hunter to go get dressed. When he came back upstairs he totally did not match. I told him to go change, he didn't match. He said, "Boys don't care about matching. Only Mom's do!"
Then last night I read this over at Actual Unretouched Photo's. How funny is Mel! And it's SO true.

My Beautiful Flowers

To a child, to MY child, dandelions are not a weed. They are a beautiful flower to be cherished. And in so many ways Hunter is the greenest of us all in this house. He is the first to make sure you recycle all that can be. He has a love for gardening and flowers like I have never seen in a child. I LOVE that in him.

So everyday when we walk to the bus stop, I get a new bouquet of "flowers". He loves to pick them. He loves to see the smile on my face when he hands them to me. He loves them SO much he asked me if we could plant some when we get our yard done this summer.

Me and hubby had a good laugh at that. You know they make stuff to get rid of those, not plant them is the comment that was made. But not in front of Hunter. We will let him go on believing dandelions are flowers for as long as he wants. Or until we get some of our own and his dad plucks them out of the ground!!!

Spring Has Sprung

Atleast for the weekend. Anything after that is always up for grabs. But for now it's gorgeous out, the boys are playing baseball, and no one wants to do anything unless it's outside.

Yesterday I took advantage of the beautiful weather. Stripped all the beds, opened a couple windows, turned the ceiling fans on low, and even got out and took an hour long walk with Carter when the 2 older boys were at school. And he even fell asleep in the stroller. (insert my shocked face here) I met one of my new neighbors that will be moving in next week and she gave me a tour of her gorgeous home. She doesn't have any kids the same age as mine, but she was super sweet and found out we know some of the same people that go to her church.

On my walk I started thinking about the 20 baby pounds I still have to lose. Carter is 10 months now. Too old to blame it on him. It's true the older you are the harder it is to lose it. But that isn't an excuses either. I haven't really tried. I haven't taken the time to exercise. To watch more carefully the food I put in my mouth. I try to feed my family healthy. Atleast as healthy as I can get 2 growing boys to eat, but I can do better for us. For me!

I hope yesterday was a jump start. I might not be able to go to the gym 4 times a week like I did before Carter was born, but I can surely take a walk everyday. I can focus more on what is going in my mouth. I will plan our meals better so we aren't eating hot dogs and slushies at the little league field every night. But every once in a while is okay. Right?!?!

Girly Things

When you are the only girl in the house these are the checks you buy!

I find more and more that I am buying pink things. I love pink, but I have also found that as the only girl in this house.....If it's pink, NO ONE will touch it. I have my eye on the pink ipod.

And for anyone that knows my family, you know Camo is a big part of our lives. So how appropriate for me to join in the fun. Even if it is to just pay the bills.

And if you want to feel old....

Monte - You didn't have a computer when you were a kid?

Me - No. Only one person I knew did and we thought she was rich.

Monte - So what did you type on?

Me - We had a typewriter.

Monte - What is a typewriter?

Should I tell him I also didn't have a VCR or a microwave? Or a CD player or cell phone? And ipods and DVD's didn't exist?

Why I Came Home With A Headache

I had a "date" on Saturday. Not with my hubby, but with my middle son, Hunter. It was so nice to have that one on one time with him that is so hard to find when you have 3 kids.

This picture was taken 2 summers ago. Before I got pregnant with Carter, when Hunter was my "baby". It was hot, and we had just gotten out of the pool at my in-laws. My hubby snapped the picture, which is rare. I'm usually the one behind the camera.

Monte was invited to a birthday party at a movie theatre. He REALLY wanted to go of course but I don't know the parents well at all. So I took Hunter to see the movie too. I had no idea how structured this party was going to be and just dropping my 9 year old off at a movie theatre wasn't something I was comfortable doing. And Daddy got some one on one time with the baby.

The moment I walked in the door I knew I had made the right decision. These boys were running everywhere. There was no control over them. So I bought mine and Hunter's tickets and we played some air hockey. It was getting close to movie time and the mom seemed to have all the boys together, so on a leap of faith I left Monte in the lobby to go get our seats.

The theatre was packed. My first thought was there isn't enough seats for the whole party. We got our seats and I was sitting there. My mind running. I NEED to know where Monte is. I can't just leave a 6 year old in the theatre alone. What do I do? A Manager walked in and I jumped at my chance. Telling Hunter "DO NOT MOVE" I got up and talked to the manager and usher. They had NO idea what I was talking about. So I told them, I HAVE to go find my son. But I knew if I took Hunter with we'd lose our seats. They promised to not let a soul talk to him and I went to find Monte.

The party was grouped together without a parent in sight. And all they knew was the movie they were supposed to see was sold out. (Meet the Robinsons) You mean they didn't buy tickets ahead of time!!! He thought they were going to see Firehouse Dog which started 10 min later. So back to Hunter I go to make sure he's okay, then back out to check on Monte. He's not in the lobby anymore. I ask the girl taking tickets, Did a big group of boys just go in this movie? They did. Okay. Relax. BREATHE. Watch the movie the Hunter.

To try to end this for you, when all said movies were over, the party went into the "party room" for pizza, cake, and presents. If I didn't have to go home to nurse the baby I wouldn't have left. When I got back the lobby was empty, except for 14 boys running around and 1 mother trying to keep her eye on all of them. CRAZY!

What really gets me though are all the parents that don't care. That I'm sure see me as this over protective mother that is always hovering. But I don't trust someone to watch my child the same way I watch him. And I know Monte would never just leave, but what if someone just took him? We have never left him at a baseball practice, and up until this year he had never been on a field trip without me.

There are 2 girls in his class that ride their bikes 1 mile down a narrow curvy road to our house to see if Monte is playing outside. I don't even let Monte off the street. What are parents thinking? Times were different when we were growing up. I just don't think you can be too safe.

My Little Authors

A couple weeks ago I promised to show you the books Monte and Hunter made during spring break. Well, here they are. I don't know why (and neither does my hubby) sometimes lately our pictures won't transfer. And then for no apparent reason, it does. Technology! I should have taken pictures of the insides, but I didn't. And now the books are on display at their school. You'll just have to take my word for how cute they are.

Time Flies When Your Having Fun

So lets get a little caught up on what we have been doing.

On Wednesday I took Hunter and Carter to the mall in the morning to see the Easter Bunny. He seemed to like the big yellow bunny just fine. Grandparents, scary. Big bunny, okay.

Thursday my hubby took the day off work so I could go with Hunter's class on a field trip. We watched a children's theatre put on Aladdin. That also started the first day of his 4 day weekend. Boy was it nice having him home. Friday he took the boys to see TMNT. They LOVED that.

Saturday we colored Easter eggs. 36 to be exact. We all had fun seeing as how me and hubby got in on the action too. Egg salad anyone?!?!?

Saturday we also did our Easter Bunny fun. We always do Saturday so we never take away from the real meaning of Easter. It was complete with hidden baskets for the older boys to find and one for baby to sit and stare at until someone opened it. And what would Easter fun be without too many plastic eggs filled with candy!

Easter was cold, but no one seemed to care. We had a great time with family just enjoying all being together.

All Good Things Must Come To An End

Spring break is over. Oh how I miss it already. The sound of my alarm was very foreign to me this morning. It took me a minute to realize what that noise was. Selective memory? Oh do I hate that alarm.

But we did have a great spring break. We didn't go to Disney World like the boys wanted too! We stayed home and just enjoyed the amazing weather we had. We had days they wore shorts. NOT normal for the end of March. They played outside everyday and we had friends over and went to the movies. We went to the park and ate out. They started baseball practice and Carter sat in grass for the first time. (not impressed) We stayed up way past bed time and slept in everyday.

We read books and they each wrote a book. They had an author come to their school and each student was given a blank book. Monte spent weeks on his. He wrote a rough draft and his teacher made spelling and punctuation corrections. He had to copy it into his book and add pictures. He worked so hard on it and did a great job. I am very proud of the job he did.

For Hunter we did an ABC book. He did the writing himself and decided what each letter would stand for. Then he drew a picture for the letter. He had so much fun and can't wait to take it to school to show his teacher and friends. I took a picture of the books after they went to bed. I meant to take one of them with their books but forgot. For some reason my computer won't let me transfer them. Hmm.... I'll add it later I guess.

Monte is already on the bus and Hunter will leave in a little bit. The house will be quiet, and as nice as that is, I will also miss the noise that seems to follow little boys where ever they go. The one thing spring break made me realize the most..... I can't wait for summer. Bring it on!!!
