It Starts So Soon

Up until now Carter has had no interest in the TV. And aside from music catching his ear during a few commercials, I wasn't sure he had even notice there was such a thing as a TV.

Then this morning as we are putting mommy's things back in the kitchen cabinets for the 7th time today, what does he hear? The Wiggles on the View. I had no idea. I was talking to him and the next thing I know he drops the bowl he's supposed to be putting back, and runs like mad into the other room. What do I see when I follow him? 14 seconds in and he was hooked. We have DVR so I even played it back for him. Twice.

A Meme

Rhonda at Mimi's Toes tagged me for the 5 interesting things meme.
1. I love chocolate. I mean LOVE it. CRAVE it. CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT. But I hate chocolate cake.
2. I took 2 years of Spanish in high school but can't remember any actual words. I can count to 15 (which I probably learned from Dora) and I know the alphabet up to Q.
3. I am not a creative person and my kids school projects scare me. Last year Hunter had to make a Turkey. That was the only directions. Well, that and the children had to have some part in the making of the turkey. Ours was a sad little bird. I couldn't believe what some of these kids came to school with. This year it's robots. I'm dreading that assignment.
4. I am allergic to cats. Have been my whole life. I like cats, think I would want one maybe, but it's been so long since I touched a kitty I'm not sure. It really kind of stinks because my sister and some of my friends have cats and if I go to their house I can't sit on anything but a kitchen chair and can't stay more then a little bit.
5. I never got wisdom teeth. And I never will. The first time I was told this was when I got my braces off. They took x-rays and said there was no sign of any. (they start showing up in x-rays when your like 9) Since then I've had other dentists comment that there are no wisdom teeth anywhere in my head. But I did have an extra baby tooth that they pulled before they put my braces on.
Now I tag Arianne and Steph. Spill it ladies.

Either He Needs Glasses, Or I Need To Sweep My Floor

Last night after dinner as I was putting dishes in the dishwasher, I hear Hunter say...

There's a penny on the floor!

A penny? Why is there a penny on the floor up against the baseboards? Good thing Hunter saw it or Carter would have put it in his mouth. (I'll be glad when this stage is over)

Hunter - Never mind. It's only dust.

Maybe I should spend this rainy day cleaning my floors.

Braces. Already?

Monte is seeing an orthodontist today. We've been told for a couple years now that he is going to need braces. He has a cross bite, his pallet is too small, and there is not enough room for anymore adult teeth once he looses the rest of his baby teeth. My husband has perfect teeth without ever having braces. They are straight, he has a perfect bite, I think has only had one cavity in his entire life, and he is the only person I know that has all his wisdom teeth and actually has the room for them. It's sickening, I know. But I had braces, so I have always anticipated my children might need braces. Lets face it. The majority of kids need braces. At this point I'm just hoping at least one of my boys will have gotten his Dad's teeth. These braces are going to put us in the poor house.

I got my reminder phone call for the appointment yesterday. It started something like this.

Me - Hello?

Receptionist - Is your mom there?

I'm Missing Summer Already

Last night I went to bed before 11pm. 10:56 to be exact, but that is EARLY for me. I don't know why, but ever since I got pregnant with Carter I can't sleep. Atleast not very good. I have to stay up until I am so tired I can't keep my eyes open anymore. I wake up several times a night, and Carter has been sleeping through the night for months.

I've even been getting up at 7:00 to get the boys ready for school without any trouble at all. Most of the time I'm up before my alarm. Well, bring on the cold weather and now I'm like a bear hibernating every morning. I was still up a few times last night, (Carter got up once too. It's either this cold he still has or those huge bumps on his gums where his molars are coming in) but when my alarm went off it took everything I had to get out of bed. Man, being the parent stinks sometimes.

But, Carter is sleeping still. It's a bit chilly in the house. Hmm, that bed is looking mighty inviting....

A Night Of Firsts

Saturday evening me and Monte went out alone for the first time since Carter was born. And to be honest I can't remember when the last time was. Was I 8 months pregnant? Was I only 3 months along? Who knows. The point is it was long overdue. We went out to dinner and had a wonderful time. Our waitress was wonderful, and the food was amazing. My date wasn't too bad himself! The hour we were there went by too fast and it was time to go get the kids. We even sat in the parking lot for a few minutes deciding if there was somewhere else we "needed" to go.

This was also only the 3rd time we had ever left Carter, and the first time it was somewhere besides our home. He didn't do too good. We stopped and picked up McDonalds for the boys, and dropped everyone off at my MIL's house. When I left, Carter was happily eating his chicken nuggets (McDonalds, another first) and didn't even notice I was gone. After he was done eating and got cleaned up, I guess he walked down the hall, realized I was gone, and started to cry. And cry, and cry, and cry. My MIL was unable to calm him down. My SIL was unable to calm him down. And my FIL knows better then to even try. Hunter tried playing with him. It wasn't until Lil Monte picked him up and sat on the couch that Carter finally started to calm down. He laid on brother for who knows how long, making them both so sweaty my MIL got a fan.

I was told next time they are coming back to my house. Fine by me. I was trying to make it easier on my MIL, and Monte and Hunter hadn't been to Nana's in awhile. But this is why I hate to leave Carter. I never worried about Monte and Hunter when I left them. I never felt bad leaving them. Carter just has a totally different personality then his brothers. But everyone survived. Hubby and I had a wonderful dinner. Lil Monte is a fantastic babysitter. And hopefully Carter learned I WILL COME BACK!

Not Now

This morning when I woke up Hunter I heard the dreaded words.....

Mom, I don't feel good.

One sweep of his forehead and I know he has a fever. 101.0 to be exact. Poor baby. He has had a runny nose for over a week now, Saturday woke up in the middle of the night saying his ear hurt but then all day yesterday said it was fine. Now a fever this morning. He has too busy of a week to be sick. Grandparents Day, he's supposed to play the bells, and a field trip. That I got picked to go on! Not good timing. But then again, when is it ever.

Happy 10 Years

It hardly seems possible, but today me and Monte have been married for 10 years. 10 years is a big deal to me. Such a milestone. 1 job change, 4 moves, and 3 amazing little boys later, here we are. And I can't imagine being anywhere else. The road has not always been sunshine and rainbows, but I'm proud of the way we have always worked together to get through anything.

I was 20, and he was 19 when we found out I was pregnant. We both freaked out a bit (naturally) but he never faltered. He was committed to being a dad, to being a husband. We eloped when I was 7 months along. Told no one. Not even our best friends. I've never once regretted this decision. I love that it was just us. Our own private ceremony. I might not have worn a white dress, he didn't wear a tux, we didn't stand up in front of 200 friends and family, but we meant our vows just the same.

This picture was taken 2 summers ago at his boss' wedding. When Carter was born his wife framed this 5x7 picture for me.

I Hope I Redeemed Myself

Yesterday it was in the low 60's, cloudy, a bit drizzly, and I, Mother of the year, sent my kids to school in shorts! Now, in my defence, the know it all weather man said it was going to be 71. And the few times they have worn pants this year they complain they were hot. I guess the school is still pretty warm. (they do have air conditioning, but doubt they turn it on when it's in the 60's)

But when they got home this is what was waiting for them. Pumpkin cupcakes! Thanks Beck for the awesome recipe last week. They were delicious.
